Outpatients
You will be referred by you GP, Private Provider/ Therapist, or from another Orthopaedic or Plastic Surgery Consultant to Mr Jeffers.
Your private and self pay referrals at the Yorkshire Clinic will be managed by a specialist team and all of your care will be consultant delivered by Mr Jeffers and his colleagues. Information can be found here
All NHS referrals are triaged and prioritised by Mr Jeffers and you will be treated in turn in keeping with the NHS and local treatment pathways. Some referrals may be passed with advice to the musculoskeletal team based in Primary Care for initial treatment, as not all hand conditions require review or treatment by a consultant. NHS treatment is mostly consultant delivered with some elements consultant supervised and delivered by Specialist Registrars in Hand Surgery.
During your outpatient visit you will be seen by Mr Jeffers (for all private patients and most NHS patients also), or under supervision by his Specialist Registrar in Hand Surgery (when seen as an NHS patient at Bradford Royal Infirmary). Mr Jeffers is additional supported in hand clinic at Bradford Royal Infirmary by Mrs Sara Dixon, a specialist hand therapist with more than 30 years of experience.
We will listen to your symptoms, examine your hand and review any previous results, treatment, operations, scans or x-rays.
Further X-rays may also be performed during the consultation and you may require more specialist scans or investigations that will be arranged by the radiology department (ultrasound, CT scan, MRI scan, arthrogram) and will be reported by our expert musculoskeletal Radiology Consultants (Dr Chandramohan, Dr Chisholm, Dr Chew & Dr Naveen) or nerve testing by Dr Verma, Consultant Neurophysiologist, at St Lukes Hospital and The Yorkshire Clinic.
The specialist investigations take time to arrange, perform and report and you are likely to be seen afterwards to discuss the results with Mr Jeffers. For some results Mr Jeffers will arrange a telephone appointment to discuss the result particularly if the next step is likely to be non-operative, this will have been discussed at your initial appointment.
Mr Jeffers will discuss your condition and the possibility of non-operative and operative treatment. Not all conditions require an operation and your treatment will be based on best practice guidelines, such as those of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).
All patients will be treated with respect and dignity. Mr Jeffers is committed to providing his patients with the best possible quality of care throughout their treatments with the purpose of obtaining the best possible results.
