Russ is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon sub-specialising solely in the assessment and operative treatment of hand, wrist & elbow conditions. Areas of interest include arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the wrist and elbow, dupuytrens disease and reconstruction of complex injuries of the hand, carpus, wrist and elbow. He also performs joint replacement surgery of the small joints of the hand and total elbow replacement, basal thumb arthritis surgery with the vast majority of cases as ambulatory local and block anaesthetic day case surgery.
Russ is on the Specialist Register and was appointed as a Consultant at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2010 and was recently awarded the European Diploma in Hand Surgery by the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) and has recently been invited to become an examiner in Hand Surgery in Britain and possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education examiner awarded by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Russ is a full specialist member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, the British Orthopaedic Association, the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society and has presented his research work at national meetings. He has published in peer reviewed medical journals. He is active in training junior doctors and orthopaedic surgeons in training and is a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers. Russ gained the Intercollegiate FRCS (Tr&Ortho) exam in 2008 and was appointed as a National Interface Orthoplastic Hand Surgery Fellow at Wythenshawe and Royal Salford Hospitals with further experience observing at The Upper Limb Unit at Wrightington Hospital over a twelve month period. He followed this with a further seven months as an Upper Limb and Honorary Hand Surgery Fellow at the Royal Derby Hospital and Pulvertaft Hand Centre. Russ graduated from the University of Dundee in 1996 and has had a nomadic training throughout the United Kingdom before settling in Yorkshire. His basic surgical training took place in Dorset, Devon,Glasgow and Dumfries and was followed by higher surgical training in Yorkshire. |
