What to expect at Bradford Royal Infirmary
Outpatients
You will be referred by you GP or from another Orthopaedic Consultant to Mr Jeffers. All NHS referrals are triaged and prioritised by Mr Jeffers and you will be treated in turn in keeping with the NHS 18 week treatment pathway.
During your outpatient visit you will be seen by Mr Jeffers or under supervision by his Specialist Registrar in Hand Surgery. We will listen to your symptoms, examine your hand and review any previous operations, scans or X-rays.
Further X-rays may also be performed during the consultation and you may require more specialist scans or investigations that will be arranged by the radiology department (ultrasound, CT scan, MRI scan, arthrogram) and will be reported by our expert musculoskeletal Radiology Consultants (Dr Grove, Chew & Chandramohan) or nerve testing by Dr Verma, Consultant Neurophysiologist, at St Lukes Hospital.
The specialist investigations take time to arrange, perform and report and you are likely to be seen six or so weeks later to discuss the results with Mr Jeffers.
Mr Jeffers will discuss your condition and the possibility of non-operative and operative treatment. Not all conditions require an operation and your treatment will be based on best practice guidelines, such as those of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).
All patients will be treated with respect and dignity. Mr Jeffers is committed to providing his patients with the best possible quality of care throughout their treatments with the purpose of obtaining the best possible results.
